12/08 We requested the services of Choice Loan Consulting to help us modify our mortgage through a third party vendor with a payment of $3000.
1/09 We finalized the paperwork with them.
1/8/09 Choice contacted my loan company Countrywide but were told the paperwork had a mismatch in signature. My name on my home loan is McClain my married name is Hodges. Choice did not contact Countrywide again until after I inquired requesting an update in April.
4/09 I left two messages for an update
4/8/09 Choice contacted Countrywide and were told again they had not provided the correct paperwork to them.
4/20/09 Choice sent Countrywide the correct paperwork.
5/09 I called and was accidently place into the managers phone Darryl Neff and I overheard him talking and he stated "you know the deal fudge the numbers." Obviously this was concerning to me. I hung up and tried to call back two more times but received his voice mail.
6/06/09 I contacted the agent we hired to begin the process. He stated he had just had a meeting with Choice to discuss all open accounts and he was told our account was closed. Our agent contacted Choice on our behalf and was told one of the partners would contact us for a refund. Lisa Parker (an assistant?) contacted us. Lisa sent the refund form.
6/08/09 I sent the refund form immediately to our agent and he sent forwarded to Choice. I confirmed with Choice they had the paperwork and that it would take a couple of weeks to process.
6/8/09 In the meantime I contacted Countrywide and they stated Choice had called three times that day to discuss what plan we would qualify for. Choice was told we didn't qualify for anything.
6/15/09 I have removed Choice from accessing my home loan records and they have not contacted Countrywide since.
7/1/09 I was contacted after three more phone calls to Choice and was told we did not qualify for a refund and that a partner would call to discuss.
There website clearly states if we don't qualify we will get our money back:
4. I am current on my mortgage, do I qualify?
Yes. Due to extenuating factors affecting you financially, you may be qualified. Banks do not require your being behind in payments. If we can’t obtain a modification for your loan, we’ll give you a full refund.
7. Explain your “No Loan Modification – No Fee Guarantee”.
The principals of our company believe that if you do not get a loan modification – no fee should be charged. It’s just that simple.
Would like a full refund and this company shut down for Marketing lies, no ethics and bad business practices.

First and foremost, it is important to determine if you are eligible for a loan modification. This requires writing a letter of hardship explaining to the lender what exactly the reason is for your late payments and the fact that you are unable to pay your mortgage. Doing a loan modification on your own requires more than just advice. Becoming educated about the process is more important. There is a fee charged for hiring these companies, but in turn your mortgage payment can be lowered quite a bit and professionals can even find things in your original loan papers that may prove that the lender may have broken the law during your original mortgage signing.
If you do choose to take the big leap of the loan modification process on your own, you must first contact the lender and they will lead you to the correct department, normally the loss mitigation department. You may not want to directly say that you are in the process foreclosure. We do not want the lender to think your situation is not worth their time before hearing you out. Always document anything relating to the loan modification process, every phone call and any other information you may receive during the process must be documented. Always discuss every option available with your lender, so that you may come up with the best alternative for you. It is true you will save money going directly through your lender and let’s face it, you are struggling already trying to make your payments, but professional assistance can help immensely.
No matter what direction you decide to take, loan modificationwill be what determines the amount of time you have in your home. If you are eligible you should act as soon as possible.
